Let's Hug It Out

This weekend was another great weekend for sports. Well, unless you were a Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Green Bay Packers fan.

Maria Sharapova capped off her US Open run with the championship, b
eating Justine Henin-Hardenne 6-4, 6-4 to answer some of the critics questions as to whether or not she was just pretty or if she could actually win. Her last championship title came at the 2004 Wimbledon.

And then came her at-times petulant postmatch news conference, wh
ich Sharapova began by saying, "Let's make this a positive session tonight, please. Por favor." She got into a bit of a testy exchange with reporters who asked about the apparent signals sent by Yuri and Joyce about when to eat bananas or sip drinks at changeovers (coaching isn't allowed).

All of which led to a sentence that it's fair to say had never been uttered by a Grand Slam champion. Or anyone else, for that matter.

"I believe, at the end of the day, personally, my life is not about a banana," Sharapova said.

The Chicago Bears made the Green Bay Packers look like a high school football team this weekend, much to my displeasure. I'm sure Eric enjoyed the win. Let's face it; the offensive line is absolutely terrible. The defense looked discombobulated. So much for the #1 pass defense from last year if you let Sexy Rexy tear you apart. And Charles Woodson looked slow and old. Great offseason move there. Two rookie guards, a center that's started one game... lord help us. Oh well, at least my other team (Pittsburgh) got Najeh Davenport from the Pack. I could see that transitioning into something good possibly.

And don't look now, but I think Detroit will challenge Chicago for the NFC North Conference title. Their new defense under Rob Marinelli looked absolutely killer against Seattle.

I'm sorry to bother, but I've been looking for a copy of that Strokes cover for awhile. Would it be possible to get it from you somehow?
