Feist/Jason Collet Concert Wrap

So as most of you know, last night Ryan of Muzzle of Bees and I were fortunate enough to catch Jason Collett and Leslie Feist play the High Noon Saloon down in Madison, Wisconsin. If you haven't already been there, head over to Muzzle of Bees to check out Ryan's review of the show and some snazzy pictures.

Funny story: my friend Mike, Felicia and I were actually sitting at the table next to Ryan and his friends at the eatery attached to the High Noon Saloon, called the Brass Ring, before the show. I didn't realize the red-haired guy in the velvet blazer was Ryan until halfway through my Smokehouse Turkey sandwich though.

Feist and Collett, members of the Canadian indie-supergroup Broken Social Scene, are out on tour in support of their solo albums. I was genuinely impressed with Collett opening up the show with some songs of his new album, Idols of Exile, which Ryan says is very good. Unfortunately I hadn't heard much of anything off it before last night, but I felt that Collett did a good job channeling that Ryan Adams-esque folk rock sound that the indie crowd has embraced these past few years. Here's a couple of photos I or my girlfriend managed to take during the night:

Feist popped on stage during a couple of Jason's songs, which was really great. However, I'm not much of a Broken Social Scene listener, so you'll have to go by what Ryan says about their joint performance. Although I'm far from the professional in this buisness that Ryan is (after all, the man did slip backstage to talk to Jason and the band, causing one girl near us to ask "did you just walk in there? that's pretty balsy") but while he was back there trying to get Feist's cell phone number, I was busy taking pictures of the lovely artist, who my girlfriend described as "more like Mazzy Star than Bjork":

My favorite point in the evening, aside from the entire show, was when Collett came out wearing the red mask to join in on a song with Feist near the end. The mask was silly, but the song was superb.

After the show the lady and I headed down to frat-n-sorority heaven, Jonny O's, to meet up with my friend Jae and the rest of the Madison crew. We managed to get our hands on the "Mafia" table, the huge table near the back corner, the only place big enough to fit our 15-person company. As you can see, a lot of beer was on the table when I got there, and the fact that my quarters-playing ability hasn't improved didn't help my chances at leaving the place sober. I actually had to get up and leave the table I was so bad at one point. Or drunk. Take your pick. Here's a pic of my friends John (left) and Jae (right):
All in all it was another great night in Madison, and thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.

In some non-members of the Broken Social Scene news, ABC News anchor Bob Woodward and a cameraman are in serious condition after the Iraqi Army vehicle they were traveling in was hit with an explosive device. Both journalists reportedly have head injuries and Woodruff is also nursing broken bones.

And here's an mp3 from the funkiest white boys around, because it reminds me of a line from The Big Lebowski, which I'm going to go watch right now:

Chik Chik Chik - "There's No Fucking Rules, Dude"

See ya Monday.

Your pictures turned out great. Thanks for the good time, my friends and I enjoyed your company. Here's to hoping Feist calls the number I pressed into her hand.
